Funhouse is the nineth episode of the third season of Lie to Me which originally aired on January 10, 2011.

Summary

Dr. Lightman tries to help a man in a mental health facility diagnosed with schizophrenia, which causes him to go down a dangerous path that may challenge his own sanity.

Synopsis

Episode starts with Emily and her school friend Amanda in Cal's living room listening to loud music. Emily introduces Amanda and Amanda requests for Cal's help with her father, Wayne, who is 'locked' in a mental institution.

Cal and Gill visit Wayne in hospital, they find out Amanda stopped writing her dad in April. Cal also drinks some of the juice.

We later find out that Amanda's father was about to jump with the child Amanda off a bridge. After which, Amanda lives with Gina Dobar (Amanda's aunt). The Dobar family are also very wealthy, having come from the preeminent racing and horsebreeding family. Cal and Gill interview Amanda and Cal tells Amanda that his mother was 'bonkers' back in the day too.

Cal goes back at night and tries to bust Wayne out. While the guard reaches for Cal, Cal punches the guard, and then falls to the ground. The main doctor puts Cal in a secured room for observation. Cal hallucinates and talks to his mother.

Gill goes to the hospital and sees Lightman via the CCTV. "He broke an orderly's nose, we gave him a sedative". The doctor says you know... Gill responds "Yes I know you need to file a police report or hold him for 48 hours." Cal yells to the camera, more medication please.

Gill visits Cal during the day. Cal runs away and pulls the alarm, and then tries to look at all the drugs in the doctor's office. He gets taken away by orderlies. Cal goes back into his isolated room. He hallucinates and punches a man in the corner, a younger version of his dad. His dad says "It wasn't all me... it takes two". Cal questions his dad about his alcohol consumption and abuse. Cal says "Its not mum I need to worry about taking after, it's you, right".

Cal talks to Loker, while Loker visits. He sees Wayne Dobar eat the muffins. Cal has a flashback of eating a muffin at Gina's house. Cal takes a muffin and gives it Loker. Loker eats it to 'test' it, Loker goes crazy in the box.

They get Gina and Amanda in the lab and show them the video of Loker. Gina stands up to leave, Cal says ta-da and turns out Wayne is on the other side. Wayne asks why did you do this to me Gina. Gina says the lifeblood of the estate are the horses. Cal says that Gina also drugged the daughter.

Episode ends with Cal and Emily talking while doing the dishes.
